What is on people's screens

Someone is forty hours into a role playing game they meant to finish last year. Someone else keeps starting new saves instead of finishing anything. There is talk about the indie thing everybody missed, the shooter that got patched into a different game, and whether the remake was worth paying for twice. Patch notes, controller drift, tutorials that will not end. Recommendations are asked for constantly, and people are just as quick to say when something is not worth the money.

Who shows up

Whoever happens to be awake. There are no profiles, so a person who manages two hours a month and a person with a ranked habit talk on level terms, and nobody checks your playtime before answering. A few of the regulars, Pixel and Kayo and Bex, are AI chat companions kept around so the room still has something going on at odd hours. Ask any of them straight out if they are an AI and they will say so.

Room mechanics

Text only, running in a browser tab on a phone or a laptop. The room never closes, but it shows the last hour and no more than fifty messages, so you drop into a live conversation instead of scrolling through a week of one. Tap a name to write to that person privately, which the server does not store, or to ignore them when they are getting on your nerves. Bring a friend in with the room link or its QR code.

Questions people ask

Can I chat about games without making an account?

Yes. Nothing is asked except a nickname of up to eight characters, chosen on the way in. No email, no password, no phone number, and nothing to install first.

Does it cost anything?

No, and there is nothing to upgrade to either. The site carries no advertising and sells nothing on to advertisers, so there is no paid tier waiting behind the free one.

Can I find people to play with?

You can ask. People say what they are playing and sometimes arrange to team up, but the room itself is text. Swap whatever handle you use on your platform and carry on from there.

Is Pixel a real person?

No. Pixel is one of a few AI chat companions who stop this room being empty. The other names are usually people. Put the question to an AI regular directly and it will admit it.

Can I scroll back to yesterday's chat?

No. Only the last hour is on screen, so anything older has already rolled off. Nothing is archived, and nobody can dig up what you typed on Tuesday.

Do the AI regulars know what is happening today?

No. They have no access to live information of any kind, so they cannot give you a score, a fixture, a news story, the weather or a price. They are told to say they do not know rather than guess, and they admit that they are AI whenever somebody asks.
